THE Livingston family have lived at St Anne’s, a grand property in Inverugie, on the outskirts of Peterhead, for 21 years.
But even after living there for such a long period of time, some people in the area still refer to the family home as “Miss Pyper’s house”.
The charming detached family home, complete with colourful garden, is about 135 years old and was occupied by the late Miss Ida Pyper, a well known and well respected schoolteacher in Peterhead, for a number of years before the Livingstons bought it.
Margaret Livingston, who is selling the grand house, said: “My husband actually had Miss Pyper as a teacher himself. We kept in touch with Miss Pyper over the years, and while she was still in good health, she came to visit St Anne’s to see the changes we had made to both the house and garden.”
Inside, the property has been maintained to a high standard and there are a number of enviable features, including bay windows, a cast-iron and brass fireplace and generously sized bedrooms.
Spacious accommodation includes entrance vestibule, reception hallway, elegant lounge, sitting room, dining kitchen, utility room, shower-room, bathroom and four double bedrooms.
The rooms to the front of the house enjoy stunning views over the grounds.
The lounge is the perfect spot to enjoy peaceful views overlooking the garden. The focal point here is its cast-iron and brass fireplace with ornate wooden surround, tiled hearth and inset gas fire.
The master bedroom is a generous room with ample space for freestanding furniture and has brilliant views out to the garden.
The house is situated in about an acre of extensive garden ground, which is enclosed and beautifully maintained.
A winding pathway leads you down to the burn at the bottom of the garden. There is a secluded patio and barbecue area, as well as a playhouse.
“The garden has many unique features, like the burn that runs into the River Ugie and has been the source of enjoyment for all our grandchildren over the years,” Margaret said.
“Nestled among the rhododendrons is the original fresh water well which used to provide water for both St Anne’s and the neighbouring property.”
There is also a separate annexe comprising two offices with plenty of storage for the DIY enthusiast, and two sheds at either side, one housing the oil tank.
The Livingstons have reluctantly decided to sell their home.
“In our advancing years, it has sadly been necessary to take the step of downsizing.
“Hopefully, the new owners will enjoy and care for St Anne’s as much as we have over the years.”
St Anne’s is on the market at offers over £385,000. For more details call selling agent Masson & Glennie on 01779 474271.
